We're not your typical firm

Honestly? We got tired of seeing cookie-cutter designs that fought against the landscape instead of working with it. So we started doing things differently.

Our studio workspace

How we got here

Started back in 2013 with just three of us in a tiny office overlooking Whistler's peaks. We'd spend mornings sketching and afternoons hiking the sites we were designing for. Sounds romantic, right? It was mostly cold and muddy, but it taught us something crucial - you can't design for a place you don't understand.

These days we're a team of 14, but we've kept that same approach. Every project starts with boots on the ground. We'll walk your site in different seasons if time allows, watch how the light moves, figure out where the snow's gonna pile up, see which trees are worth designing around.

Our specialty isn't just mountain resort and residential work - it's making buildings that'll still feel right in 50 years. Not because they're trying to look "timeless" or whatever, but because they actually belong where they're built.

We've done heritage restorations where we spent months sourcing period-accurate materials. We've planned resorts that work with natural drainage patterns instead of fighting them. And yeah, we've dealt with our share of complicated permits and engineering challenges in these alpine conditions.

What drives our work

Three principles we actually stick to, not just talk about

Sustainable materials

Material Honesty

We use what makes sense - locally-sourced timber, stone that's already there, modern tech when it actually helps. No fake finishes pretending to be something they're not. If it's steel, let it be steel. If it's reclaimed wood, let its history show.

Site integration

Site First

Your building should look like it grew there. We don't bulldoze everything flat and start from scratch. That old growth Douglas Fir? We're designing around it. That natural slope? That's your architectural feature right there. Work with the land, not against it.

Long-term thinking

Future-Proof Design

Climate's changing, building codes are evolving, family needs shift over time. We design with flexibility built in. Passive solar that actually works year-round. Spaces that can adapt. Systems you can maintain without calling in specialists for every little thing.

The team behind the blueprints

We've got folks who've worked on everything from backcountry huts to luxury resorts. Our senior architects have been in the business for 20+ years, and our younger crew brings fresh eyes and new sustainability tech knowledge.

About half the team skis or boards regularly - kinda comes with the territory when you're designing mountain buildings. The other half thinks we're crazy, but they're the ones who remember to check the structural calcs properly, so it balances out.

We work with some incredible local contractors, engineers who actually understand alpine conditions, and landscape architects who get that "native planting" doesn't mean just throwing down some shrubs and calling it good.

What we actually do

Six core services, done properly

Custom Residential Design

From mountain cabins to full-on family compounds. We'll spend the time to understand how you actually live, not how magazine spreads say you should live.

Mountain Resort Planning

Lodges, multi-unit developments, amenity buildings. We know the regulations, we know the weather challenges, and we know how to make it pencil out financially.

Sustainable Building Solutions

Energy modeling, passive design, renewable systems integration. Not the greenwashing kind - the kind that actually reduces your operating costs.

Heritage Building Restoration

Got an old lodge or historic structure? We've done enough of these to know what's worth saving and what needs updating while keeping the character intact.

Landscape Integration

Your building's just one part of the site. We work with the topography, existing vegetation, and natural features to create a complete design.

Green Building Certification

LEED, Built Green, Passive House - whatever standard makes sense for your project. We'll handle the documentation and design requirements.
